The Fall/Winter 2005 issue of Conduit, the computer science department's research and alumni magazine, received an Excellence Award at the annual Gallery of Printing & Design Awards Banquet and Vendor Show at Quidnessett Country Club in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.

The event is sponsored by the Graphic Communications Industry of Rhode Island and the Providence Chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Artists (AIGA) and attracts printing and design professionals throughout southeastern New England.

The Computer Science departmental ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 28th at St. Stephen's Church, located at 114 George Street. A post-ceremony reception for graduates, family, and friends will be held at the CS department, 115 Waterman Street, in the 3rd and 4th floor atriums.

Brown University's Award for Technological Innovation was presented to Professor Roberto Tamassia and members of his research team at the Center for Geometric Computing for their work in the design and development of algorithms, software, and hardware for authenticating high volumes of data in non-trusted distributed environments. Ph.D. candidates Nikos Triandopoulos and Danfeng Yao, and undergraduate David Ellis were also acknowledged for their work contributing to the award.

After seven years of hard work perfecting the design of RoxyBot, Brown's entrant in the international Trading Agent Competition (TAC) Travel game, Assistant Professor Amy Greenwald, Ph.D. student Victor Naroditskiy, and undergraduate Seong Jae Lee were pleased to announce that RoxyBot snatched a first place victory from the jaws of Michigan's Walverine.

Robot Soccer Demonstration

The Brown Robocup Club will be hosting a robot soccer demonstration Tuesday May 9th between 1-4pm in the CIT Lobby. Robocup (http://www.robocup.org/) is a world-wide effort to create robots that can win in soccer against the human World Cup Champion. Toward this goal, we will exhibit Sony Aibo robot dogs facing-off in 4-on-4 soccer matches. These robots play soccer autonomously based on computer programs written by our team of Brown undergraduate and graduate students.
